CHANGING FACE OF CARDINIA - HARMONY DAY LAUNCH

LIVING LEARNING PAKENHAM INC. Skills and Wellbeing Centre

March 21 11am - 2pm.

It was decided that the Changing Face of Cardinia portraits would have their first public viewing on Harmony Day 2017 Cultural Diversity Celebrations. It was a good opportunity to publicly thank the Cardinia Shire for assisting the project with a Social Support Grant.

It was an event filled with Multicultural displays and activities so the portraits provided a fantastic backdrop to the day. There was a real buzz about the portraits from the community after the unveiling by Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Brett Owen and councillors Cr Carol Ryan, Cr Michael Schilling and Cr Gaeme Moore. Students from local secondary colleges including Minaret Islamic College also helped with unveiling.

Six of the portrait subjects were able to attend making it even more special. It was a memorable event.

The Official Opening was an opportunity to celebrate the project with the participants and their families. The acknowledgement to Country was performed by participant Terry Marks to start the evening, followed by a welcome and project overview by Miriam Cadwallander (CEO LLP) and Glenda George (Cardinia Shire supervisor of the project). Professor Damien Kingsbury Officially Opening the Project and Portrait Exhibition.

Janine also spoke about the project. Then it was fun to sit the participants with their portraits and listen to music provided by local band The Swamp Dogs.

Solo exhibition 23 November 2017 - 9 February 2018

Shire of Casey offered me an exhibition at Doveton Library from November 2017 until February 9 2018. Although a bit cramped in the space it received a lot of attention from the public with favourable responses.

I went ahead with this exhibition because I had grown up during my teenage years visiting friends in this area.

The Libraries have become very supportive of local artists.
