1997-1999 IMAGINARY LANDSCAPE

Themes Back

Following the Central Australia trip in the late 80s the imagery began to become more fragmented with purer use of colour.

I call these paintings the Imaginary Landscape series because they are inspired by the landscape and contain elements of landscape but the paintings are allowed to follow their own path to a certain extent. This was when a lot of layering of paint began with experimentation to discover the potential of acrylic paint.

A lot of the thinking behind these works was heavily influenced by printmaking. The step by step process of printmaking helped me work out the layering in paint.
