Damien’s World  2017  Oil on canvas 101x101cm

Salon des Refuses exhibition Hidden Faces

Recently ‘The Portrait’ has become more prominent in my art practice even though it has been a constant interest since the very beginning.

My aim with a portrait is to capture something of the character or soul of the sitter or else to say something about a deeper part of them and in doing so reflecting on an aspect of human nature.

This extra interest is partly due to having had the courage to make my first Archibald entry in 2017 - although unsuccessful it taught me to look at portraiture in a more serious light.

The work submitted - ‘Damien’s World’, portrait of Professor Damien Kingsbury -  was successful at being included in the 2017 Melbourne Salon des Refusés exhibition Hidden Faces at Pan Pacific Melbourne.
